Colt held her tighter against him, a sudden male instict to protect the helpless welling up in him. She looked so pale, so defenseless. He looked back at Aztec and sprung onto the mares back, still cradling Amy with one arm. He laid her across his knees and held her to his chest and grabbed the reins with his other. He whirled the mare back towards where they came from and squeezed her sides gently with his heels and knees. He quickly urged her into a gallop across the desert. Aztec wouldn't leave the fight until he was dead. There was no use trying to call him. He was devoted to Colt, but when it came to other stallions, Colt had little control. He wasn't sure where to take Amy, but he knew that he had to get her some help. What if she was hurt? What if she had a concusion? He squeezed his heels against the mares side more urgently at the thought, racing over the desert at a reckless speed. Aztec launched another, more tactical attack at the silver stallion. He retreated a bit, and when the stallion came closer, he whirled and slammed his back hooves towards his chest. If the attack made contact, then it would cause some serious physical problems for the silver stallion.

amytal's eyes fluttered open as aztec's attack made contact with the silver stallion. a scream pierced the sky. it took amytal a moment to realize where she was and what was happening. she looked up at colt with admiration. but as she heard the scream, her gaze shattered. colt. we have to go back to him. he's hurt. she said.

Colt slowed the mare only slightly before urging her on agian. He glanced down at the girl for a moment, loosening his grip slightly. Worry still filled his eyes. Worry for the silver stallion and for Amy. He shook his head adamantly, a lump rising in his throat. Your hurt.He spoke fiercly over the drum of hoofbeats, she didn't know if she had a concosion, and neither did he. He liked the girl and knew that she needed medical attention, even if it cost the beautiful stallion his life. He doubted that it would come to that though, for, even though Aztec was a fierce fighter, he was a merciful stallion. He wouldn't kill him, and he wouldn't keep him herd if he won. All he wanted was a fight. A horrible, bloody, nasty fight. Colt slowed the mare as he reached his truck and trailer. It had been a short ride, compared to the first time. They were now out of earshot of the stallions, but Colt knew exactly what was going on, and it wasn't pretty. Colt liften Amy a bit higher as he swung off the mare, grabbing her reins in one hand as he walked to the truck. He dropped the reins when he reached the passenger door and opened it, depositing Amy on the front seat. He closed the door quickly and grabbed the mares reins, trotting her towards the trailer. He slipped a halter on in place of the bridal and loaded her up in record time. He loped to the truck and jumped in the front seat, starting it quickly and pulling out onto the rode. He still wasn't sure where to go, or where to take her. If she could stay awake long enough he'd get directions to her house, if not, he could take her to his apartment and call some people from there. There had to be a doctor around this place somewhere, he thought as he sped down the rode. Glancing at the girl nervously he said, Can you give me directions to your house? His tones were low, but audible and deep. They were gruff with emotion and fear.

amytal smiled wryly, fighting the pain. i'll tell you if you promise we can go check on the stallion after i've seen a doctor. she said. amy spent every moment fighting to look casual as she fought the dizziness. she could see colt's figure swirling round and round. the nevada scenery was surreal. her eyes tried to stay open, but sank every few seconds as she neared unconciousness again.

Colts eyes grew darker with humor and worry. I promise, but only if the doctor says it's okay. He spoke quickly watching her through slightly scared eyes. Colt gripped the steering wheel with amazing strength as he leaned forward, looking at road signs. He had to get her somewhere, and quick, so he could go back for Aztec, and, hopefully, the other stallion. He sighed, his apartment was close, really close. It would probably be easier to go there. Forget it, deals off. We'll go to my place. He spoke with an air of finality as he pulled onto another road, headed straight for his apartment complex. He stepped on the gas, accelerating quickly towards the place.

amytal, finally able to relax, let her eyes close and slipped into unconciousness before he could tell her the deal was off. rain began to pound down on the roof of the truck as they headed toward colt's place. ashley happened to drive by, and seeing her sister in the front seat with a boy, she followed. he was kidnapping her, and taking her to who knows where. ashley always jumped to conclusions, and obviously, this time she was wrong. but there was no stopping the blonde.

Colt pulled into the parking lot of the apartment comples, not seeing the car following him. He stopped the car and jumped out, running around the car, opening Amy's door. He reached in and grabbed her gently, walking up the steps and knocking on the door furiously until Novalle opened it. She gasped, falling back with shock. Oh my God, Colt! What happened??! She gasped as she moved out of the doorway, closing the door behind him. Call a doctor, Now! His voice was harsh and angry. Novalle winced at the sound. She hadn't seen him like this for a long, long time. Colt walked into the house and into Novalle's bedroom, he laid Amy down on her bed and whirled around, his eyes flashing with the anger, confusion, and hurt of a caged beast. What are you still doing!?! Call a d**n doctor! He practically shouted at her. She disappeared into the kitchen quickly and Colton heard her flipping through a phonebook. She couldn't seem to find a number anywhere. Colt paced anxiously beside the bed, glancing at the girl. This wasn't good, not at all.

seconds later, another knock was heard at the door. ashley stood on the doorstep, looking very...very...angry. as soon as the door opened, she began to shout. what in the world are you doing with my sister! no doubt that ashley didn't bother to introduce herself...but she had always been the vainer, meaner of the two sisters. as if amytal had ever been vain or mean. the two girls were complete opposites. her green eyes narrowed as the rain poured down on her. great. now she'd have to buy new clothes from a&f.

When Colt answered the door, he was suprised to see a girl that looked very like Amy standing in the doorway. And she had the nerve to yell at him. Suddenly, he almost snapped. A blood vessel stuck out on his neck as his face grew red with fury. Somehow, he still made a handsome picture, except for his eyes. They were icy gray with anger, but no longer fear. He bit his lip, holding back all the words that tried to flow from his lips. His fists clenched unconsciously. He needed a fight, but not with this girl, not now. He'd go out somewhere later and get in a fight with someone who deserved it and someone would could withstand the blows. If only Tex was here. He'd be able to take out his anger on him without any problem at all, or Reno. Reno would be even better for him right now. His mind switched and his anger flowed out slowly. Saving her life, no doubt. He hissed in a barely audible voice, but the words held such a menacing anger and hatred for all humanity at that moment that they stung the air, sounding a lot louder than they were in his deep, gruff voice. He moved away from the door, leaving it open for the girl as he walked into his sister's bedroom. One look at Amy worried him more. His fury flowed quickly into passionate pity. The poor girl, she never had a chance. Sighing he walked to the doorway to his sisters room and looked at Amy's sister. Do you know the number of the doctor around here? His voice was still angry though, and rude. Full of contempt for the girl that had accused him so impolitely of kidnapping her sister.

ashley nodded, and told him the number quickly. she slowly calmed down. ashley might be able to yell at somebody, but when confronted with anger, she nearly always backed off. so what happened? she said, looking at her sister. she might have suffered a concussion, but she couldn't be sure. ashley was no medical doctor. looking back to the guy that stood with his sister in the apartment, she silently wondered if he had feelings for her sister...

When Novalle dialed the number and got the doctor he let out a deep breath and grabbed a jacket as he headed towards the door. When Ashley spoke his dark, foreboding eyes cut to her sharply, he stopped, glaring at her for a moment. Fell off her horse. His voice was sharp, dark. He glanced down at her once before swirling and heading for the door, his strides long and quick. Novalle looked at him suddenly, nervous. Colt! Where are you going?!? She asked, suddenly scared. She couldn't, wouldn't deal with death alone. Even though she didn't know the girl, she wouldn't be able to handle it if she died. Colt stopped once more, his eyes softening a bit, he sighed. I'm going to find Aztec, hopefully he hasn't killed the other stallion by now. He moved towards the door again, stopping with his hand on the knob. Was he doing the right thing? He knew he couldn't run from all his problems, but he knew he wouldn't be able to face this one.

the sounds of the angry shouting and yelling had woken amytal from her unconciousness for a moment. she looked up weakly at colt, heading toward the door. her gaze looked past her sister, who was being a brat. don't go... she said, voice quivering. she wasn't strong at the moment, but she'd make it...

Colt's hand almost crushed the doorknob as he struggled to open the door, but he couldn't bring himself do. He rested his head against the door, clentching his eyes, gritting his teeth for a bit. Curse words were muttered from his lips as he sighed, letting out a deep breath. He clentched his fist wishing more than ever that he had someone or something to hit, punch. He slowly counted to ten and turned back to the bed. He approached it wearily, his eyes showing his fear, but his face was like stone. It's okay Amy, I'm here. I'll stay. He didn't know how he could deal with this without breaking down. It was so much easier to be angry than sad. It helped him more than tears would ever do. He pulled a chair over towards the bed and sat down, his eyes growing hard again, showing none of his emotions. He grabbed Amy's hand between is own and looked down at her compassionatly. He waited for the doctor, and waited to see the outcome of the situation.

amytal smiled weakly, squeezing his hand gently before she drifted off again, satisfied that colt would stay with her. minutes later, the doorbell rang and the doctor had arrived. once the door was answered, he strode in quickly. i'm here to inspect the patient. he said calmly, looking down at colt and amytal.

Colt looked down at her, his eyes flickering pain that wasn't at all new to him. He turned away from her to glare at the doctor. He needed to get out of here. He needed to leave, but he couldn't. Amy's hand still held his gingerly and he couldn't force himself to break the small bond of affection. He felt strangly caged and imprisoned by a hand that was as delicate and weak as a butterfly. A new panic rose in his throat. He was getting too involved, feelings that he hadn't felt in a long time stirred inside him and he was desperate to kill the feelings, he didn't want anything to do with love anymore. It was too hard, too stupid, too blind. Suddenly, summoning all his strength, he ripped his hand away from hers as if he had been burned and stormed out the door, barely resisting the temptation to slam it. He jumped in his truck and pulled out of the parking space, headed back towards Aztec and the stallion. He'd been gone too long. He had to find out if the stallions were still both alive. Novalle watched the door fearfully. She knew what Colt felt, and she knew what he'd give to throw those feelings away. This would all be too hard on him, but he'd never admit it.
