Colton walked into the Flyinf Tomato, a bit put off by the name, and glanced at his watch. He smiled at the waitress and followed her to a small booth for two. He was here for his first date with Amy, and he was still trying to figure out if it was a good idea or not. he liked her, a lot, but he knew that he was working himself into a corner that there was only one way out of he sighed as he sat down and grabbed a menu. He looked at his watch again, it was about seven and the movie started at 8, would she stand him up? He wouldn't be too suprised if she did, but, if she did, it certainly would be a first for him.

amy came into the restaraunt with a cute sleeveless white dress on with a dark denim cropped jacket over it. she smiled toward colt. hey there. she said, leaning in to kiss him on the cheek gently before sliding into the booth. so...you like the flying tomato? she smirked softly. she'd always loved this place.

Colt smiled, almost relieved that she had shown up. hey to you too. It seems alright, sounds a bit dangerous though. I didn't want to try this place before, they really should change the name. He chuckled as he watched her move into the booth. Your looking a lot better. How do you feel? He asked, his voice instantly softer as his eyes watched her strangely. He loved her already, though he couldn't see it yet he just knew he liked her more than most girls. He glanced over the crowd in the place, very few people today, maybe they'd been worried of being hit by a tomato as well. He smiled at the thought, he had suspected something along those lines, and was really suprised by how nice it was inside.

amytal smiled softly. yeah...you know, i'm the reason for the name? she laughed. i'd moved here just when this place opened and i started a food fight in here with my sister with the tomatos. she smirked. she pointed to a faded red spot on the wall. see the stain? she giggled, green eyes sparkling. yeah, i'm feeling a lot better. so what movie do you want to see? she murmered.

Colt smiled as he leaned closer to get a better look at the stain. Well, I'll be danged. Whatever you want to see, I'll watch just about anything. He chuckled and handed her a menu. We can decide that when we get there, for now, what do you want to eat? He looked over his own menu, looking for something appetizing, although he really didn't feel like eating.

amytal shrugged. just a slice or two of pepperoni pizza. i'm not hungry enough to eat a whole one. she smirked. unless you want to start a food fight. she smiled.

Colt threw his head back and laughed. I'm sure you'd like that, but leaving here wearing a bunch of tomatos and pepperoni doesn't really suit me. But I think a couple of pepperoni slices wouldn't be perfect. He smiled as he waved the waitress over. 4 pieces of pepperoni pizza please. The waitress bustled off and he sat back in the booth, draping his arms across the edge of the seat.

eww, you're right. i don't want to have you smelling like a new bottle of ketchup. she smirked, leaning across the table to kiss him gently. the waitress returned with their food moments later. so...tell me about your past. she smiled.

Colt rubbed his chin thoughtfully. My past? You sure you want to hear about that, it's kinda a boring story. Not realyl sure if he wanted to, or didn't want to tell her about his former life.

Colt smiled, it was a tempting offer. Alright, sounds fair. I grew up in north texas, near Amirillo. I was raised on a reservation most my life because my parents traveled a lot and I lived with my grandfather, Old Horsecatcher was his name, and he taught me everything I know about horses. Anyway, my parents came back from time to time and when they did it was fun, but short. Then, three days after I turned 16 the cops came and told me they'd died in a car wreck somewhere near New Mexico, after that my grandfather died and I quit school and got a job so I could rent an apartment for me and Novalle to stay in, then I worked for a few years at a lot of ranching jobs, but quit a lot of them and had to move a few times because Novalle kept getting kicked out of schools. Tex had grown up down the street from me, but I won't tell you his story, it's pretty sad on his part, I had another friend that lived on the reservation, Reno, but he was a full-blown drunk by the age of 16, so I steered clear of him for a while. I won't tell you his story either, it's not that great. Anyway, Tex had started living with me when I was about 17 and then Reno moved in when he turned about 18, he was sober by then and they both helped with the grocery bill and the rent, so it was cool for a while. Then some trouble started and Reno started drinking again and I had to get him out of a bar fight, after which he swore of liquor forever, and I had swore off going into bars, for any reason. Then Tex started going sour and I found him in a bar alley one night, getting mugged. It wasn't a good life, at all. I almost went to jail twice. But the sheriff said that my crimes were only out of self defense so I got off clean and I left, then I went to college and got a degree in blacksmithing and farriering anjd almost became a vet, but, by then, Novalle started getting in trouble again so we moved agian. To here this time, and hadn't seen Tex since I turned 21, and I haven't seen Reno since then. I don't know if he's still living at that reservation, he probably is, but, anyway, thats the basic of my story. So now, what's yours? His voice was strange as he repeated most of what had happened. He hadn't told her that the crimes he had comitted was killing 4 men. He didn't intend to ever tell anyone.

amytal smiled, leaning toward him as he finished. so you're the one that keeps everyone out of trouble, right? or at least tries... she smirked. now came the hard part. well...ashley and i were born in california...dylan was born here in arroyo...our parents divorced when we were about five. dylan was around eight. she shrugged, trying to sound as unconcerned as possible. but the truth was that she was still so hurt...about the matter, many years later. that was okay for a while...i guess. my dad got ashley and dylan and my mom got me. she sighed. but things got ugly after a few years. she took a bite of her pizza before continuing. my father started doing drugs...abusing ashley. and when my mother began threatening him to stop, he tracked us down. her heart began to race, just remembering the days she'd spent in the car as they fled from the attacker. he killed her. right in front of my eyes. she murmered. silence filled the air. he couldn't live with himself...he turned himself in to the police. he lived in jail until dylan turned 18. he got out of jail and joined the army, before being killed himself. she muttered, green eyes a dull grey as she stared at the table. the words flowed from her mouth, effortlessly. she'd never been able to tell anyone outside from the judicial authorities and her brother and sister. it was easy to release the words that had been locked up for so long. but life's been slowly returning to normal. ashley and i inherited the stable... she concluded.

Colt nodded absentmindely as she told him about the horrors that her own life had contained. How could such terrible things happen to such nice people? He had no idea, it wasn't fair thats for sure. He covered her hands with his own as he watched her eyes change before his very eyes. He knew how hard she was trying to sound unattached to the memories and he knew what it felt like to not be able to hold back the emotions. I'm sorry Amy. I had no idea. Suddenly he hated himself for bringing up those bad memories, he shouldn't have ever said anything.

amytal shrugged once more. it's alright. i needed to get it out. she said, squeezing his hands. don't think that you brought my sadness around. she smiled weakly. i feel so sorry for ashley...everyone thinks she's such a brat. but she can't help it...she's just so...destroyed inside. she murmered. she tries so hard to cover up her weaknesses with her hate for the rest of the world. she sighed, looking up at the ceiling as she attempted to keep the tears from coming. a hand ran under her eyelid, desperate not to find any moisture. maybe tex can change that. she added hopefully.

Colt watched her carefully, knowing that she was barely keeping her tears under control. Amy...I don't know if Tex would be right for the job. He's...he'd...he's been through a lot as well, he doesn't have the best track record with liquor or girls. He tries to hide it all by being reckless and tough and mean, but he really is just hurting in his own way. Maybe they can fix each other. He smiled reassuringly, but he didn't feel it. Tex was insecure and was having a lot of problems getting over his fathers death. He wasn't sure if Tex could help Ashley at all, but, hopefully, they'd both see that they'd been through a lot of the same stuff, and maybe they'd help each other through it.
