The evening sky streaked a rainbow of colors as the sun began to settle down for the night. The swirls of orange and yellow and pink painted a mosaic of natures beauty in the sky as the sun burned at the edge of the horizon. The sun gave one last heave as a warm breeze blew across the prarie, nothing tainted the soft breeze, nothing but nature and solidarity.
Red snorted and lowered his head to graze as Scott sat atop him taking in the unending beauty that he had missed for so long. It felt great to be on his own and finally at some sort of peace of mind. Scott picked up the split reins and his heels had barely touched Red's sides before he picked up a trot back to the edge of the tree line.
There Scott had a small primitive camp set up, branches crackled softly as the flames overtook them. He dismounted swiftly, and loosened the cinch and let the saddle slip to the ground by the fire. He patted the well muscled shoulder of his quarter horse stallion as he reached up and took off the headstall, letting it rest easily on a nearby branch.
Scott patted Red's rumped and he tossed his head and trotted out to the crest of a hill, settling down to graze for the night. Scott stretched out the folded saddle blanket and rested against the familarly sweet scent of his worn saddle, watching the small tin pot over the campfire steam.
Scott had grown quite accustomed to living out in the wild, and did it more often then not. He had learned himself in the ways of finding food and surviving off what you could find. He liked no better way than to live in simplicity. Thats the way he had always lived, every since he had been on his own by the age of 16.
He removed the pan from the fire and fetched a sthingy, he had rounded up some wild potatos and onions and caught a jack rabbit during the day and prepared a hearty soup for his dinner and only meal of the day. He ate it slowly, drinking periodicly from the canteen filled by the spring a few yards away. To him there was nothing better than this...simple and easy, only him and Red.
He finished his soup and rinsed it out in the creek, washing it with the gritty sand on the banks. He went back and layed out, looking up at the stars through the branches of the trees, the fires heat dancing gently off his tanned muscular body....

he said the way my blue eyes shine put those georgia stars to shame that night i said that's a lie;;
Emily walked in, led by starlight, blonde hair falling past her shoulderblades as she followed the crackle of a fire. Her eyes immediately fell on the boy sitting near the fire, tanned muscles gleaming in the light of the flames. A soft smile made its way onto her face. He was absolutely gorgeous. Choking the words out somehow, she continued to smile at him. 'I didn't know we had homeless people in Arroyo.' She smiled teasingly toward him. 'Can I sit down, or is your camp for friends only?' She grinned, blue eyes shimmering like glitter in the firelight. If this worked out, she just might be lucky enough to have a new boyfriend within the week. How wonderful would that be?

Scott stood up with a start, he must have dozed off and awoke to the sound of hooves and an unfamilliar voice. He blinked the sleep out of his eyes and looked up at the girl, shirtless and in his dirty, dusty, jeans. So much for his silence...but oddly enough he didnt seem to mind that much. He smiled, he probably did look like a homeless person...because he mostly was, he would rather be living off the land than in a stuffy house or apartment.
He laughed, feeling a little more sociable than normal, and replied " Well normally my friends have names...mines Scott " he said in his deep twangy accent, " But sure, sit down " he said sitting back down himself. He grabbed his white shirt, which had been acting, along with his saddle, as a makeshift pillow. He slid it on, covering the deeply cut muscles and tanned chest.

&& the hardest part was letting go, not taking part;;
She smiled toward him as she pushed her bangs out of her eyes. 'I'm Emily.' She said warmly, continuing to smile at him. She almost wished he'd left the shirt off. But that was just another part of her dirty, girly mind speaking. She took a seat where he gestured, blue eyes meeting his over the firelight before darting away with a blush and a smile. 'So, are you really homeless or are you just against living in a house?' She grinned toward him. They were complete opposites judging by accents. Emily was British, and he appeared to be very Texan. 'You don't look like a homeless person...' She laughed softly, refraining from drifting into the English slang word 'hobos'. A soft laugh came as she sat there at the fire with the complete stranger, settling easily. 'I feel like I've been invited to have tea with the Queen.' She laughed softly, being sarcastic again. 'Only you're certainly not the Queen, and this is certainly no palace.' She grinned. Wow, Emily. Nice. Make a fool of yourself within the first five minutes. Even better, make it three!

Scott smiled, he had never heard anyone with a European accent before, in fact he had never lived anywhere outside of his hometown up until a few weeks ago. It had cause dquite a ruckus when Scott told his father he wanted to go out and see what there was in the rest of the world...did his father expect him to live in Round Top, Texas his whole life? His father owned the biggest business in the town...a cattle ranch
Scott just hated the fact that the rest of the world was just passing him by while he was sitting around herding cattle, he wanted to be out on his own...learn what its like. So his father gave him the only thing he could, a thousand dollars he scraped up and a false smile goodbye. But that was more than Scott has expected, he expected to be kicked out instead of leaving on good terms.
Scotts thoughts came back to the campfire he sat by and the gorgeous girl not 4 feet away from him. " No, im not homeless...i have a home, just not anywhere remotely near here. And i guess i could rent an apartment...but i really like it out here, away from anything and everything " he replied with a grin, noticing her blushing cheeks. He looked around, yes his camp wasnt exactly the most welcoming homey place...but it was the only place he had for now and he kind of like it that way.

&& i've seen love die way too many times when it deserved to be alive;;
Emily smiled toward him. 'Then you should stay out here. I think it's wrong that some people go out searching for material things in uncomfortable places when their home is where they feel the best. My sister did that once, and all she returned with were bad memories and a broken heart.' She said. Wow. That's wise, Emily. Awkwardly wise. 'I just didn't expect to run into anyone out this late at night, no less living here.' She giggled, the stupid blush still on her face. She liked him already. After all, she hadn't had a boyfriend since Devon. Maybe he could be the next to love her...
A wolf split the silence and she looked over her shoulder and back to him with widened eyes. 'You don't think the wolves will come to get us tonight, do you?' She said, shivering after a moment from the cold. Wind blew in from the north, forboding the danger that seemed to lay ominously close. A soft smile passed between them. There was something pleasant about the adrenaline that ran through her body with the fear.

Scott nodded, happy that someone didnt push him down for what he had done. Everyone else said he was just running away, but for once someone agreed with him. He looked back at the prarie as the coyote howled, desperado he thought as he remembered the story and old ranch hand had told him about coyotes and their calls. " I think we are ok, its just a coyote and they normally stay away " he said reassuringly.
Scott went to his tent, and grabbed his jean jacket, he handed it to her with a smile and sat back down. Now im the nice sensitive guy who lends her his jacket...stupid he told himself as he sat down again. " I didnt expect to find anyone out her this late either...what are you doing out so late? " he asked.

we were meant to live for so much more. have we lost ourselves?
A smile came onto her face as he lent her his jacket. How sweet. Her eyes met his as he moved away, and her heart raced as she took the coat and draped it over her shoulders, thanking him in the silence. 'I'm not sure... I guess I was just out to look at the stars. I walk around at night pretty often...' She smiled.
'So have you ever invited any other girls over to your camp besides me?' She smirked toward him, moving from her seat across from him to sit next to him, still cold. She warmed up as soon as she got near him, smiling up at him while twirling a blonde strand around her finger subconciously. She was flirting and she didn't even realize...

Scott nodded, he too could appreciate the stars out here...there was no better view of them than right here right now. She really did have the most amazing blue eyes he had ever seen. Her smile could make the most cold hearted old man melt into a puddle. And her body, not even the best poet in the world could put in enough desciptive words to touch the way it made him feel...
He smiled as she sat down next to him, sensing the flirtation rising in him also. " Well duh, your about the third tonight " he said laughing. " I mean all the other homeless forest living girls just cant get enough of my homey campsite " he said sarcasticly.
Two could play the game of flirting....

then came you.
A grin came over her face as he playfully teased her. 'Well I'm sure they'd be very unhappy about me visiting you.' She murmered. She could almost see herself saying something else, followed by a kiss. But she couldn't bring herself to do it. She didn't know him all that well. She had to know somebody before she began liking them. Even cute strangers like this one.
'Oh, there must be a lot of those. Yeah, I saw that story on the news the other night 'Girls lost for years finally found at Scott's campsite!'.' She grinned, drawing out the words as if it were a national headliner. Who knew, it could have been. In Emily's world, that is. In the distance, from the crackle of the fire and their voices, she could hear the grass parting like the Red Sea before Moses. Only whatever was coming was much, much larger than Moses. Heavy thuds announced it's arrival, and a roar came from in the distance. It was a bear, and though it seemed to not want to come near the fire, it also seemed to be willing to take that chance. Emily soon realized why. It was a mother bear, and her cub had happened to run behind Scott's campsite, unnoticed. The bear's speed quickened and a wild roar came from her snarling lips. Emily screamed, wrapping her arms around him in fear, practically sitting in his lap. xD With her luck, she'd embarass herself again... somehow, she'd find a way.

Scott laughed " Even though that kind of makes me seem like some mass kidnapper of beautiful women, but i guess that makes me sound like i have more luck with them then i really do have " he said smiling. Scott was usually one of those shy quiet type guys that stuck with his work and never fooled around with girls....but being from the ranch and out of his element brought a side to him that he had never known that he had.
Scott tensed as the mother bear headed at her top speed towards them, Scott pressed his finger to her lips, trying to quiet her hoping not to aggrivate the mother bear anymore. He reached slowly for his saddle bag, pulling out a bag of dried deer meat. He was still and silent for a moment and then he threw the meat and whistled loudly.
Hoofbeats were heard and in a split second Red was there, he reared and squealed nervously, distracting the bear enough for Scott to Grab Emily and throw her up on Red, then mount him himself. Scotts heels dug into Red's sides and they were off at top speeds....

i gotta whisper 'cause i can't be too loud;;
A smile came onto her face as he put his finger over her lips, even in the face of fear. The smile spread into a grin as he took her up in his arms and put her on the back of his horse. She wrapped her arms around his torso as they galloped away from the campsite and the bear. 'Please let him be able to find that campsite again...' She silently prayed to herself. It would be horrible if they got lost in the woods... Wait. She thought that over again. It actually wouldn't be half bad. Just as long as they got out alive... and together. Together as in a couple.
Finally, they were far enough away from the bear, that Scott allowed his horse to slow down. Her arms stayed wrapped around him stubbornly. 'Where are we?' She said, looking at her surroundings. The area was washed in moonlight, but that wasn't the only reason it looked new. It was far off the trail, surrounded by tall stalks of grass that moved like the sea with the wind and there was a small pond to the left of them with trees thriving near the water source. It was beautiful... All the more magnified by the person she was with...

Scott slowed Red, and slid off, confident that the bear wasnt going to come this far. He offered his hand up to Emily and helped her slid down off of the red roan horse. " It's ok, i've lived off of this land for a couple of weeks, i'll be able to find my way back easily " he said looking around, slowly remembering they were just a mile or two away from the campsite.
Scott took her hand and walked toward the lake, they better stay away from the campsite for a little while before they go back. He sat down, looking at the moons reflection on the lakes water....remembering exactly the reason why he lived out here.
